DU's Philosophy Department to Hold Get-Together Program on Friday

A get-together program will be organized on the occasion of the centenary celebration of the philosophy department of Dhaka University. This program will be held at TSC next Friday. Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun will be present as the chief guest.

The information was given in a press conference organized by the philosophy department on Tuesday.

The Chairman of the Department of Philosophy Professor Dr. Shah Kawther Mustafa Abululayee read the written remarks at the press conference.

Former chairman of the department Prof. Kazi Nurul Islam, Prof. Azizun Nahar Islam, Prof. Harun Rashid, Secretary General of Philosophy Department Alumni Association Shah Md. Asadullah, Prof. Abu Jafar Md. Saleh, Prof. Nuruzzaman, Prof. Abul Khayr Md. Yunus and others were present at the time.

President of the Alumni Association Professor Dr. Shah Kawther Mustafa Abululayee said that about two thousand fresh and senior alumni will join. The gathering will be colorful with the presence of former students of the department who have contributed with reputation in various sectors at home and abroad. The festival will begin in the morning with a colorful procession. Another purpose of organizing this program is to remember those whose talent and efforts have completed the centenary of this department.

He highlighted the history of the department and said that the journey of Dhaka University started in 1921 with three faculties namely Arts, Science and Law. The philosophy department is one of the 12 departments that started the education program at that time. 

He said that it was not possible to celebrate the centenary of that philosophy department due to the coronavirus pandemic and various other reasons. According to the decision of the departmental academic committee, the centenary of the Department of Philosophy of Dhaka University will be celebrated on November 25, 2022 at 9 am at the Teacher-Student Center (TSC) of Dhaka University.

He further said, Dhaka University Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Samad, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof. Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal, Treasurer Prof. Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed and PHP Group Chairman Alhaj Sufi Mohammed Mizanur Rahman will be present as special guests.
